Why does Tom’s Music Trust exist? What’s it all about? And just who is Tom?
Well, Tom – or Thomas, as he’s also known – was a guy with the ability to brighten up any space he occupied. He had a fantastic sense of humour and always found the fun in any situation. He was kind, compassionate and giving of his love and friendship. And, most of all, in the last four or so of his 26 years, he did all he could to share his love of music.
After teaching himself to play the guitar by practising in every spare minute, he developed a growing fondness for the blues, which saw him studying its history as well as its techniques. But his appreciation of music didn’t stop there; he was interested in the roots of music, and his car radio was even tuned to Classic FM! He’d begun to adapt and rebuild guitars, too. He really was fascinated by the concept of music, and he was enthusiastic about sharing this new-found interest… with absolutely anyone who’d listen!!
So, the reason that Tom’s Music Trust has been set up is to help spread Thomas’s love of music to those who have survived him; to give other young people the opportunity to grow through music, both finding and giving enjoyment, just as he was beginning to do.
The Trustees hope that, in supporting young local musicians, the legacy of Thomas will prove positive and helpful to those who benefit, as well as entertaining to those who witness their growth and development.
